The session co-organised with the Nationalism department proposes to explore the emergence of modern nationalism, with particular focus on the manifold challenges that faced the Jews of Eastern, Central and Western Europe as competing national ideologies demanded their allegiance or rejected them as totally unassimilable.

It will examine relevant topics from the late 18th-century integration of Jews into European society until the late 20th-century fall of communism.
