The fellowships are part of the research project, “The Meaning of Death in Society Today,� which was launched together with the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften and the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, and is supported by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung.

The objective is to support research that contributes to the present understanding of death and dying, considering historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. It also intends to create awareness for ethical, legal, political, and scientific issues. Transdisciplinary and comparative approaches will be given preference.
