Ideas of sustainable development (SD) are now incorporated in many spheres of life, being in the center of economic and political debates. EU already is basing its policy on the concepts of SD.

At the same time within the existing educational systems in Eastern Europe SD should be studied within some established traditional academic discipline, like biology, geography, soil science or sociology, history, economics. Each of them treats issues of sustainablilty differently, from their own angle.
